Achieving Professionalism When Conducting Voiceovers for National Sites

When a big conglomerate wants to employ the services of a voice actor to do a voice over commercial, corporate videos, and a voice over for their company's history documentary, it's an opportunity every male and female voice over talent wants to nail. You should consider yourself privileged if you were chosen as one of the male or female voice overs for one of their projects. Achieving and maintaining professionalism is of the essence.

Evaluate the Voice Over Project Beforehand

Before you accept any project, evaluate first if you can deliver what they demand. If they want a voice over commercial completed in three days, ask yourself, "Is it possible?" You have to discuss the details of the project, their involvement, your rate, and the works. Setting clear and definite expectations should be the first thing to do to avoid any future misunderstandings and disagreements.

Maintain Constant Communication Between All Parties

Establish a line of communication between you, the company and their representative. Would they prefer an email form of correspondence or would they like to be reached by phone? Establishing communication can help a lot in the making of a voice over project, especially if some problems arise during the production.

When speaking to your client, use formal language and maintain a course of ethics towards them. Furthermore, reports and invoices should always be submitted on time and accurately.

Follow the Contract to the Letter

Since you were hired for a particular project, let's say as one of the female voice overs for a big company, you have to work within the confines of your contract. The contract is where the terms and conditions of your employment are stated, such as duration of the project, the pay, and the specifications of the client. Once it has been signed, the terms of the contract are not negotiable, including deliverables, time frames and often times, quality of work.
