Female Voice Over vs. Male Voice Talents
Choosing the type of voice talents that are needed for a given voice over can prove to be a difficult task. Training, education, experience, and credentials should all be considered when properly picking out a voice talent to fit your needs. However, other considerations such as female voice over vs. male voice talents should be thought over first, as well as age of voice needed, and language desired.
Male or female voice talent should be considered according to the type of voice over needed. A study done on Voice123, one of largest voice over marketplaces, recently showed statistics comparing requests for female voice over vs. male voice talents. Statistics were based on all projects posted during the present year. The study showed that 41% of the projects that were posted required male voice talents, while 35% needed some sort of female voice over. 24% were said to require both female voice over and male voice talents for the same project.
Age should also be an important step when considering the voice over that is needed. Many times multiple ages need to be incorporated within a single voice over. Thus, maybe a middle aged voice along with a teen voice is needed. The same study on Voice123 showed that the most required voice age was middle aged at 81%. Young adult was next on the list at 55%, then senior at 17%, teen at 6.7%, and child at 3.6%.
Finally, language should be considered according to the region in which the voice over advertisement or otherwise will be airing. Another study of Voice123 showed that American English was required most for voice talents at 65.39% of the pie. Next in line was British English at 17.07%, Spanish at 10.37%, and other languages making up the other 7.17%.
